Kindness

This week in cybersmart, we talked about kindness. We all worked collaboratively on a Google Slide by changing the word art font and colour and adding a background.

We then went to everyone elses pages and wrote kind things about them.

We looked at our own and downloaded it. We shared our thoughts of ours on our blog.

Tongan Language Week

Malo e lelei!

This week was Tongan Language week and for our cybersmart session, we linked in this learning.

We each created our own tapa cloth (or ngatu), inspired by the Tongan Culture, on Google Drawings and then had to add it to the wider class one.

We watched videos which showed some tapa and had some ideas on what to do.

Here is our tapa cloth:

Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu & Google Maps

Today, we looked at our Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu Classes on Google Maps.

Our tuhi mai tuhi atu classes are Rutherford Jnr High in Whanganui and Edmund Hillary in Papakura.

Here are some things we discovered about the schools:

Rutherford Jnr High: has a big field, carpark, 4 courts

Edmund Hillary: 3 courts, a big field, hopscotch on their turf, big carpark

We all have crossings outside our school and we all wear a uniform.

Matariki

This week is Matariki and we have been doing a lot of learning around this in class!

Our cybersmart lesson was also around Matariki where we had the opportunity to choose from a range of activities including Google Draw, animations or interactive images using Google Slides and Google My Maps.

We all decided to do animations – which had to be based around one of the stars. Here are some of them – can you work out which star they are around?

Samoan Language Week

Talofa!

This week is Samoan Language week and we have been doing heaps of activities in our school to showcase this.

Whaea Stacey also made our activity in cybersmart this week related to Samoan Language Week.

We used Google Drawings to make Samoan inspired patterns and artwork. We used shapes or the polyline to create our designs. Whaea Stacey showed us how to group and use a hex code to change the colour.

Here are some of our designs:

What did you do to celebrate Samoan Language Week?

Posters for our Disco

In week 8 our school is having a disco for both Matariki and to raise some money.

This week, we used canva to help us create a poster for this. Whaea Stacey showed us how to choose backgrounds, change font and add in images.

We had lots of fun. Whaea Marina, Mr D and our student leaders will be picking a winner!

Here are some of our designs:

Visual Mihi

This week in our Cybersmart lesson with Whaea Stacey we learned about what the difference between private and public information is.

Private: things that you shouldn’t share online such as your last name, address, phone number, bank details etc

Public (or Personal): things that are OK to share online such as your first name, your favourites, your hobbies etc.

We discussed whether it was OK to share our brothers and sisters or parents names and we decided that if you have their permission it is OK, otherwise keep that information private.

We then made some visual mihi to show off some of our favourites or things that make us, us!

Digital Footprint

Today we learned about our digital footprint and how it is more like a tattoo (there forever) than footprints in the sand (washing away).

We learned how to find our history (Control + H) and looked at what our last 10 different websites were.

We then used one of the images Whaea Stacey had provided (which were 2 islands or a set of footprints) to put in the icons of the websites we had visited. We also added in footprints so it showed us going on a journey. We use a lot of Google sites. What sites do you visit the most?

Individual Blogs

Today, we got to log into our own blogs! We learned how to change our avatar on our blog and add in a nickname for ourselves – but we had to be careful that we didn’t mention our last name – as that is not something we should share.

We shared our ‘All About Me’ profiles on our blog post. You can check out our individual blogs where we are going to share our work in the sidebar!

Animations

This week in our Cybersmart session with Whaea Stacey, we learned about making an animation using Google Slides.

First, you make a frame (with a background and a picture – with no background). Then you duplicate the slide using control + D and make one small change. You continue this until you are happy with your animation.

Here are some of ours:

Have you made animations before?
